SLSQ SUMMER CHAMBER MUSIC WORKSHOP 2004

I had the tremendous fortune of participating in the St. Lawrence String Quartet's (SLSQ.COM) Summer Chamber Music Institute 2004, which commenced on Friday, June 26 and culminated in an epic recital at 11am on Sunday, July 4th. The institute has been running for four years now, and each year the caliber of students has improved noticeably. Also interesting was the incredible diversity among participants, many of whom have day jobs in medicine, law, engineering, and other arts.

The excellent staff this year consisted of members of the SLSQ (Geoff Nuttall, Barry Shiffman, Lesley Roberson, Chris Costanza), plus Stephen Prutsman (piano), Scott St. John (violin), Kwangwu Kim (piano), Yung Chin (bows), Rob Kapilow (evangelist/educator), and John Lad (tai chi). The masterclasses we participated in were among the most informative and funny of all the ones I've been involved with, and coaches were very good at mixing intense learning with fun.

In addition to two daily coachings and masterclasses, the workshop featured noon concerts and evening chamber music reading parties (which tended to run into the wee hours of the morning).

I'm exhausted! But here are some photos for you to enjoy. Also, please leave a comment!

Okay. I'll bite.

It took quite awhile to download the photo page. Then to scroll through all the pictures. Not that I'm complaining.

Looks like a wildly busy couple of days. To say the least.

Keep up the fun.

Great photos, as always. Glad you enjoyed the camp so much! I haven't been to a camp in a few years now. You just reminded me how much fun they are!

Andrew - I must admit that I am broadband-centric these days. The problem is that I want to share many photos, and the number of dialup people I know is dwindling rapidly. Sorry for the large page sizes!

soo jealous! =) glad you got to have a musical retreat.

wow - intensity. humor. smiles. pornography. complete with shampoo commercials. hahahahha. couldn't help but smile while looking thru the pics. looks like so much fun. good stuff!

Its cool. I am actually on 512Kb ADSL. I can't imagine how long it takes for dialup.

I use to have cable which was super fast but gave it up as ADSL is better value. Thnaks to the current broadband price wars that Australia have at the moment.

Its good to see some updates you've been a bit quiet with all your travels. But those travels are amazing.

Thanks for sharing with us.

Was wondering what you've been up to...looks like loads of fun. Many cute musician girls to hang out with as well, nice. :)

Great pictures and captions! I found you by Googling "Stephen Prutsman", who I think is one of the most awesome pianists of our time. It's great you host and attend so many musical events!

Thanks for the photos! I hardly ever see Chris, so this was fun for me! Did you actually read all the Haydn String Quartets? I actually did that with friends while I was at Eastman--it took 24 hours, lots of beer, and chili.

These pictures are great. Sitting at my Frankfurt lawyer's desk I sometimes sneek to this address to look at the pictures and cherish the memories of a wonderful summer course with great people and great music.
