On
Monday, March 19th, Heidi's
quartet came over to run through Brahms
Piano Quartet in c minor, Op.60, which hosts in it one of the most
amazing cello solos ever written (3rd movement). I get chills whenever
I think about it. Anyway, so I took advantage of the opportunity to host
what will hopefully become the first of many "salon" style events
at my place. Currently, the list of potential performances includes jazz
singing, electronic/experimental music, and (of course) more classical
music. Of the fifty or so people I send email to, about fifteen showed
up (plus the four quartet members), which I think is about the right number
of people I need to fill my place without feeling cramped. Fortunately,
the piano had just been tuned the Wednesday before, and the acoustics
in the room weren't too bad! I think the room could use some more wall
coverings, but overall it wasn't as boomy or loud as I had anticipated
it to be. If you're in the San Francisco area and would like to participate
in these events, send me email. :)
