[echeng.com] journal > small world

Hmmmm... It appears that there is more to post about when I'm off traipsing around the world. I should leave on another trip or something. heh.

Usually, my updates here are tied to photographs I've taken in the last few days, but I've actually only taken NINE photos since returning from my trip, and most of them suck. Oh wait, I just took a few more (of my fish tank). :)

I've had a strange haze in my head all weekend. I wish it would go away.

Anyway, for lack of anything really interesting to write about, I'll write about what a small world it is out there. Yesterday at the Sze sister dinner, I hung out with a couple of Kenny's friends from USC Med School. One of them I had met before, and the other recognized me immediately as the "one who went to Palau with Kenny." I also met a bunch of people who know Peter and saw Li-Chen, whom I hadn't seen for two years. At Karine's house on Friday, I found out that she and two other girls who were there know Gabe from Oxford. And today, when Karine was showing me photos from a bachelorette party she went to last night, I saw photos of my friend Lindsay and a bunch of people I used to see frequently at Slavdom (a house on Stanford campus). I guess I shouldn't be surprised. After all, I'm still in the Bay Area hanging out with Stanford folk. :) It should also be noted that Karine is the same Karine that Dardy writes about in his journal. It's strange to see her name capitalized in print, since Dardy always writes it lowercased.

I'm currently obsessed with SNL Celebrity Jeopardy. berry funny stuff. BUCK FUTTER! AHAHAHAHAHA!

ok. some pics must be presented, so i'll present some i stole from peter's camera (all 'cept for one). :) shoot. i look pretty red in these photos. damn alcohol dehydrogenase! i wish i had it. jane told me to take pepsid ac. i asked this cool brain surgeon i know, and he said:

"i think the flushing and stuff is a histamine-mediated reaction. both claritin and pepcid/tagamet are histamine blockers. who knows if it really works, but i think it kind of works. zantac will work, too."

when asked to clarify, he responded:

"Circumstantial evidence suggests that antihistamines such as loratidine (claritin) and members of the H2 receptor antagonist family (like ranitidine (zantac), cimetidine (tagamet), and famotidine (pepcid)) may prevent the embarrassing capillary dilatation seen with ethanol consumption. I have no personal experience with the gastric mucosal antihistamines, but I find that popping a 12 hour dose of claritin-D (5 mg claritin/ 120 mg sudafed) does tend to reduce blushing. Give the claritin approximately 30 to 60 minutes to take effect before initiating imbibation."

I said:

"uh... ok."

Note that neither he nor I are giving actual medical advice. That's our disclaimer, so he doesn't get in trouble. :) Kenny's started posting cool cases he comes across in the hospital. I can't really understand any of it, but sometimes there are pretty pictures.

Hey. ever since i started reading the online journals of other people, i've stopped using last names on my site, except perhaps for the people i link to in my friends page. strange! oh well. i never post email addresses of people i know, but i will link to their web pages, if they exist. oh wait, i guess i will post last names of people who write me nasty email, too, but that's only happened a few times.
