WETPIXEL BAHAMAS SHARK EXPEDITION 2005: CARIBBEAN REEF SHARKS
[previous: bahamas topside] [next: tiger sharks]

Reef Sharks, Carcharhinus perezi

Reef sharks (in this case, the Caribbean reef shark -- Carcharhinus perezi) are the canonical shark. In the Bahamas, there is a large pack that I've been photographing since 2002. Jimmy and I jumped in just before magic hour (before sunset), and I shot a bunch of portraits in the seagrass, underexposing the background to get a nice, midnight-blue backdrop. Carcharhinus perezi have a nice, bronze sheen to their skin, but you can't really see it unless they are just a few feet away.
