We were awakened from our slumber at 6am and were in the water about an hour later. The water temperature here in Galapagos has been unusually cold for the past few weeks, but this week the water seems to be fairly warm at 71-72°F on the surface. I'm pretty comfortable in my 7mm semi-dry wetsuit, but some of the guys here are wearing 3mms. The two dives we did here were a lot of fun: the current was pretty mild, and we were greeted by many yellow-tailed surgeonfish, pufferfish, sea lions, a few eagle rays, and many white-tip reef sharks, who were both hiding under small outcroppings and free swimming in the rocky area around the point. On the second dive a few of us saw some scalloped hammerheads, but they swam by without coming close enough for a photograph. I wish I had diffusers for my strobes. I borrowed two Ikelite SubStrobe 200s from James, and they are way too powerful for some subjects. I'll be glad I have them when we see whalesharks, though.
