June 13, 2004 - South Plazas

The island is considerably greener than it was the last two times I set foot here, but much of it is still shrouded in red succulents. We spotted a juvenile red-billed tropicbird under a ledge near the end of our hike, which was nice. I like tropicbirds.

There was also a large colony of sea lions at the dock, who were for some reason very excited when we arrived. At one point on the island we heard loud splashing from the water and turned around to see fifteen to twenty of them porpoising down the coast in turbulent shallow water.
