Awesome shots as always echeng :) I couldn't believe the sea lions would cruise around next to those massive eating machines. Your polecam looks very cool--excellent about-to-swallow-the-camera shots. I really need to get over my fear of cold water (and get dry suit certified). Looks like an awesome trip. Mad cow disease now setting in...AAAARRRRGGGGGG!!!! ;)

Dude. I'm not in a really good position to comment on the Big Design of the Universe, BUT those seem to be some dumb f'ing sea lions. :)

Eric: Just returned from the Marquesas Keys and a successful expedition. We managed to tag 39 lemon sharks, got 5 recaps and 0 mortality. We used the R/V Tiburon for the first time and it was a good experience similar to your vessel for the GW trip.

The GW images are, as you say--eye candy. I was struck by the excellent shape these (or this) white was in. It looked like a fairly young individual--maybe lsee that 13 feet?? Other than the upper lip, the animal looked very clean indeed--as if it were not yet feeding on pinnepeds. Again Kudos for your wonderful work.

I noticed that Kaz Maris was with you. He came to two of our Bimini shark courses. Hope to see you again at Bimini or in Miami!

Love from doc n marie

You know what they say about the first step to taking good underwater photos: Spend, spend, spend! I dive with a friend who just recently acquired an EOS-10D and Subal housing + dual YS-90 DX strobes. He says that one of the most important things to remember about diving is having redundant credit cards.

Nice pics, btw (subject matter, composition, lighting).

Hi Eric, I happen to stumble onto your sites while searching for strobes on the interenet for my camera. I'm so envy of your photos dude, it make me wanna just jump into the water and snap like crazy. As i'm a newbie diver, and a very newbie UW photographer, you have given me some insperation not to give up my new found hobbie, (an expensive one at that). But hey, as long as you enjoy it, what's stopping you right??

Hey echeng awesome pics man. I've been checkin out your sites for a while now. I've got a shark dive coming this sunday, going to be 8-15 galapagos sharks swimming around me with no cage. Just wondered if you had any tips for getting good pictures without losing an appendage. I heard flash makes them more agressive... any truth? Anyways keep up the great work. YES I love sharks!

omg i love great white sharks. They are the most scandelous creatures. I love how they have that look on their face as if they observe life around them but simply dont care. They are magnificant and an important part in our ecosystem and they have so much power as much as scaring an living thing on this planet. My love for great white sharks ( and other sharks) is so extreme and i would love to study sharks and their living habbits and habitat.

Some truly amazing pics Eric. Recently returned from Fiji where I joined Manasa, James, Rusi and co. for their infamous feeding frenzy. What a day, such beautiful creatures, and i'd only seen one shark, leopard, in my short diving affair previous to this treat! (got qualified in Jan 04.) Unfortunately I do not own u/w housing for my camera, but google'n a few key words led me to your little (or not so little) treasure trove of images - i hope you dont mind too much but I had to share the wealth with family and friends. Just trying to work out where I can get 2.5k usd for the San Diego trip, with a stopover in Singapore (!?!) to buy some goodies from Sim Lim square!! Could be a little while... Keep up the good work and i'll be returning for future updates! JB - Hampshire, England.

Dear Eric Cheng, I am a biologist here in Sardegna, Italy, where I study molecular biology in Cagliari University. I have funded a No-profit association for the research and conservation on elasmobranchs in mediterranean waters, particularly in my island's coasts, its name is AQUAlab. I'm also going to create a web site for it. I'm writing this e-mail to ask you the authorization to utilize a picture of the great white shark, one chosen by yourself among all your wonderful images. Its use is intended to be only for No-porfit and no-commercial purposes, but only educational one. It could be in my web site with your name besides it and your copyright and property mentioned. I would have a preference: the page I'm going to create is for a monitoring project about the presence of the white shark on sardinian waters, so I would prefer a picture without cages or no-mediterranean small fishes around the shark. If you also would have a dorsal fin's image it would be great. I would also, of course, show the link to your site in my own. I'll wait an answer from you with pleasure. If you could help me to my project I would be very happy, if not, doesn't matter, I say you Thanks a lot anyway, just for the attention reserved reading it. I wish you all the best things! Best Regards, Luca Zinzula.

Eric, I'm in love with the white shark, they are the most beautiful graceful creatures I've ever seen. I have seen the videos from .exico, where there is no chumm(sp?) in the water, They are just like cats, feeling everything with their mouth and nose, because they have no hands! I mean, what else are they supposed to feel with?:) The only thing i know for sure is that if I am that captivated by a picture or a video of these animals, there is no telling what my reaction would be to a face to face meeting. I can't wait to find out. All my friends think I'm nuts...oh well!

Contrary to popular belief....there are great white sharks found off the coast of the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador
