Kona, Hawaii 2005 - Humpback Whales

I really enjoy my visits to Kona to visit Jim Watt. This year, I happened to visit while Kelly Bracken was visiting as well. Jim, Kelly and I spent most of our days whale watching on the water. We also spent a day up on the north-west coast (by car), whose waters were unusually calm. Jim had just returned from an exploratory diving expedition up the coast with Sport Diver Magazine, where he and the rest of the team were beaten to a pulp by the ocean. :)

We also had some amazing experiences in the water with humpback whales. It's illegal to approach marine mammals, but all of our encounters were initiated by the whales themselves.

While on Kona, I spent a little time with Doug Perrine, Masa Ushioda, and the SeaPics.com gang. Special thanks to Steve Drogin for his generosity and letting me stay at his beautiful house.
