WAKATOBI, DEC 2003 - ECHINODERMS
[previous: crustaceans] [next: critter eggs]

Echinoderms (Other)

We didn't see very many interesting non-crinoid echinoderms, but it was perhaps a result of lack of observation rather than lack of availability. The only sea star that we were actually looking for was the crown of thorns starfish, known for ravaging reefs. The reefs of Wakatobi are actively patrolled for crown of thorns starfish; when one is found, some of the dive guides will remove them from the water and burn them.
