Rolling cart for Oculus Rift VR setup

A lot of my friends are Mac users who are setting up dedicated Windows machines to run VR setups like the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive. Many of them are trying to figure out where to put an extra desktop computer and all of the accessories necessary to accommodate a VR headset, and some have cited spousal considerations as being a prominent, paralyzing feature in their decision-making processes.

My solution was to get a sturdy, rolling presentation cart. After doing some research, I purchased the $155 LUXOR AVJ42KB Presentation Cart. At full adjustable height, the top surface is 42″ high. I put a 24″ monitor on it, which fits perfectly (along with the Oculus positional tracker). A 3-outlet power strip with cord winding “ears” sits on one side (you choose the side), and there is a hole in the shelf to run cords. The keyboard tray is surprisingly sturdy, and has room for a short keyboard (like a gaming keyboard) and a mouse. The working height of the keyboard is a bit under comfort for standing use (I’m 5′ 8″ tall), but is fine for short sessions; if you plan to work at this station for long periods of time, get an adjustable work chair. My favorite office chair that is versatile enough to double as a chair for both normal-height and standing desks is the Safco 3442BL Metro Extended Height Chair. 

I’m very happy with the setup, and think that it will work for a lot of my friends who want a dedicated VR machine (or a random desktop computer) that they can wheel out of the way when it’s not in use.
